On July 29th, 2022, Daynamica hosted the “Understanding Everyday Life: Advancing Social and Health Sciences through Digital Day Reconstruction” symposium at the University of Minnesota. This one-day, in-person event brought together over 70 academics, practitioners, and professionals from diverse fields to delve into the profound impacts of everyday life activities and experiences.

Although often perceived as mundane, the routines and encounters that constitute our daily lives play a crucial role in shaping human health, well-being, and societal progress. The symposium highlighted how researchers at the University of Minnesota and beyond have leveraged the Daynamica app—a pioneering digital tool for collecting human activity and well-being data throughout the day—to uncover new insights and make groundbreaking discoveries in the social and health sciences.

Through a series of thought-provoking presentations, speakers explored a wide range of topics, including time use and health outcomes among at-risk populations, the effects of environmental exposure on health disparities, and the impact of COVID-19 on daily living patterns. These explorations shed light on the intricate connections between our seemingly ordinary activities and their far-reaching consequences.

Beyond the insightful discussions, the symposium provided a unique opportunity for participants to network and explore potential collaborations. By bringing together diverse perspectives, Daynamica fostered an environment conducive to identifying synergies and paving the way for future partnerships aimed at deepening our understanding of the 5Ws (Who, What, When, Why, and Where) of daily living activities and experiences.
